Haugesund, Norway

You’ll not miss Carol in this coat

First port day on this Norway cruise, the weather isn’t so bright, drizzle more than rain. We docked on a little island which is connected to the town via a high bridge. We have no excursion booked so it’s a DIY port day.

This is our first taste of Norway ever and it doesn’t disappoint, stunning colourful buildings, everywhere is very clean, thriving waterfront with some bars and restaurants and the town centre looks to be doing well with a mix of shops. I even found a sewing shop for a walk around.

Whilst waiting to get off the ship we noticed a hop on hop off land train pull up to port so we decided that was how we would see the area. We walked past the little gift shop at the port and noticed large golf umbrellas in a stand, the notice said help yourself and if it stops raining whilst, in town drop it off at any store. If it starts raining again borrow another one from a store. We thought that was excellent and very thoughtful.

we boarded after buying our tickets for approx. £20 each. Very informative tour, near the end we got off in town. We strolled the shops then went down to the harbour side for a drink, there is a story to tell here😂😂. Usually I am left to sort the bill out whilst P nips to the restroom (to check the standard 😀) however on this occasion It’s the opposite way round. When I return he is just finishing paying on his Monzo card, We get outside and on our way, I ask him how much it was for a Sangria, a beer and 2 flat whites as this is our first use of Norwegian currency. He says it was expensive it was NOK800 ish which came through on his Monzo card immediately at £67 😮. I asked him for the receipt to check it as I had thought my Sangria was about NOK 112 and coffee was NOK55, he didn’t get the bill so I checked the website, we were back at the ship nearly at this point and I was right so he had paid the wrong bill. Somebody in the restaurant had a cheap lunch that day. 😂. Guess who won’t be in charge of paying the bills this holiday.

I had my new M&S flamingo pink coat on today to cheer everyone up in the drizzly weather although P says it is so he doesn’t lose me😂
