Newport, Rhode Island
Friday 7th October
A tender port so making sure we didn’t have to queue for ages for a boat to take us ashore we got up early to be ready for the first boat at 7.15am. Breakfast via room service then we were down for the boat. We were at the dock on land before 8am. Very pretty and clean place so we had a walk to Starbucks, had our morning coffee whilst the place opened up then we went for a stroll around town. Very beautiful place, buildings very well kept, you can tell it’s wealthy area. Newport is known for its mansions and vineyards.
We had a stroll down the Main Street checking out the shops and gardens. Speaking to lots of people on our way around town both locals and fellow passengers. We stopped to admire a sculpture of a pair of legs hanging out of a wave, a local said that in the winter time the locals put socks on its feet 😂.
We had lunch on the dockside overlooking the yachts. I had a lobster roll and Paul had the crab cakes, we both washed it down with a local IPA, very enjoyable.
The leaves are just starting to turn so hoping that further into the trip we will get more colours. We decided that we would like to do a road trip around this area so hopefully we will be back.
We rounded the night off with mixed bag music trivia , I was pleased that I was able to contribute with identifying A Jim Reeves number. Thanks Mum. 😀
